At Colleen Sanders Photography, we love to pamper our clients. We take care of everything so that your senior experience is amazing!! This includes a welcome packet with loads of info on what to wear, planning your outfits and locations, what to expect and more!  We also do a face-to-face planning session to talk all about you! We go over your outfit ideas, talk about your style and finalize all the details that make your session unique.  And on the day of your session, we pamper you with professional hair and makeup. Yep, you read that right, it’s INCLUDED in your session.

Why do we include professional hair and makeup when so many other photographers don’t?

Simply, it’s a luxury and your senior experience with Colleen is all about luxury.  After being pampered for two hours everyone feels amazing and is ready to step in front of the camera. But it also takes a whole bunch of stress off our senior clients – you don’t have to worry about who is good, what time to book the appointment, or paying for it. We take care of all of that for you.  So many parents are so grateful that they don’t need to worry about this! We tell you where to go and when to be there.

We often hear some questions about professional hair and makeup from our clients, including some of the following:

I’m a natural girl and don’t wear makeup normally. Do I need professional hair and makeup?

We get it. Most of the clients that we work with are pretty natural on a day to day basis – including little to no makeup, hair straight and down or thrown up in a messy bun.  This is pretty much the style for most high school girls – and I love it! But when it comes to senior portraits and being in front of the camera, I promise you, that yes you want pro makeup!  Makeup shows up about 2 to 3 shades lighter in camera. So on the day of your senior portraits, you may feel like it’s a lot of makeup, but it won’t appear that way in your images.

I still want to look like me in my senior pictures. I’m afraid I will look too glamorous with professional hair and makeup.

We want you to still look like you too! The professionals that I use, I have selected over time because they know how to make my senior clients still look like high school students. We don’t use a ton of heavy makeup. And we customize every clients’ makeup to match what you want. Most of the girls that I work with tend to want soft curls in their hair with a little volume on top of their head.  And mostly light face makeup with an eye pop.  My artists also include false lashes to make your eyes pop a little more.  If you look at the images here as well as on my Instagram, you’ll see most girls are not over the top glamorous.  If you want lighter/simpler makeup, we can do that. If you’re a girl who wants to rock some glamour, then awesome, we can do that too!  Just let us know at your planning session and we’ll get you the look that fits you.

I’ve never had professional hair and makeup done, so I don’t really know what to expect.

First of all, don’t worry! We’ve got you taken care of! You can show up the salon with comfy clothes, clean face and clean hair.  And the Artist will take care of you! I will have passed along your requests to her, so she’ll already know the style you are going for – but feel free to tell her anything you like or don’t like.  With your makeup, they will tell you what to do, when to look up or down, to close your eyes or open. Most likely they will place the false lashes at the very end.  With your hair – if you want soft curls – they will start to curl your hair from the bottom up.  Don’t worry if at first it looks like you have ringlets!  They will comb the curls out and soften them.  Your hair will get sprayed with soft hair spray – so you won’t look like you have a hard hair. Usually I meet you at the salon near the end of your appointment, and we’ll be off to your location.

Professional hair and makeup can cost a lot. Do I really need it for my senior session?

Yes, you definitely want it for senior pictures. But no worries about the cost because it’s included in your session fee. So the day of your appointment, it’s already paid for!

I don’t know who to book or what time I’m suppose to get it done.

I know you don’t know who to use or who is good; that’s why I take care of all of it! I use a few Professional Artists in the Folsom and El Dorado Hills area who are amazing at what they do. They are fun, easy to talk to and have worked with me for a while. They know how to get my girls looking camera ready without having too much makeup on.
